Samsung Notebooks

Samsung India today announced its entry into the portable PC segment with a comprehensive lineup of Notebook PCs and also made a foray into the fast growing Netbook Segment with its N series. The Notebook lineup includes notebooks in different categories – Premium, Thin and Light X series ; Mobile Optimum-Q series and the All rounder , Mainstream– the R series.
“The comprehensive Notebook range being launched today reflects Samsung’s design and manufacturing leadership, with up to 75% of the components going into the Notebooks, being manufactured by Samsung. From memory to hard drives to the LCD display and batteries – at Samsung, we control every aspect of each notebook, from its chassis design to its hardware and software integration. This is what sets Samsung apart from its competitors and gives the customer, the reassurance on product quality and reliability”, said Mr. Ranjit Singh Yadav, Director-IT, Samsung India.
With its entry into the Indian notebook market, the Company which was hitherto only in the IT peripherals space, is providing a complete PC solution to its customers. The X360 and X460 are 13.3 inch and 14.1 inch premium thin and light notebooks. The X360 is weighing 1.29 kgs and achieving an incredible 10 hours of continuous usage. Both X360 and X460 support Samsung’s latest 300 nits Super Bright LED backlit LCD display, which help consumers to view content in broad daylight while being on the move.
Samsung’s X-Series highlights a huge emphasis on ultra portability and design without compromising on the performance. Both the X360 and X460 feature the latest Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processors and Intel New Wireless LAN (802.11n). The X360 and X460 have a rugged magnesium alloy chassis and a strength providing aluminum plate behind the LCD, a ‘pebble’ style keyboard and lightweight components that bring new meaning to the phrase ‘thin-and- light”. While the X360 is priced at Rs. 115,014/-, the Samsung X460 Notebook is priced at Rs. 80,614/-.
All Samsung Notebooks feature 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth 2.0, HDMI (with the exception of the Netbook NC10) output and Silver Nano keyboard. With these top-end specifications, Samsung’s notebooks are designed and built for the customers seeking the latest technologies integrated into highly mobile platforms.
Samsung’s famous Touch of Color design – with its black to red color gradation featured in Samsung HDTVs and desktop monitors – are found in the Q and R series notebooks. The Q310 is a highly portable all purpose notebook featuring a 13.3 inch wide LCD display while the R610 features a 16 inch wide LCD with HD Compatibility , 512 MB memory and 17 key full size numeric keypad , making it a delight for gamers. The Samsung Q & R Series (R460 and R610) feature the latest Intel® Centrino® 2
mobile processors, advanced graphics, large hard drives and a unique Touch of colour glossy design at very attractive pricing. While the Q310 is priced at Rs. 61,694/-, the R series are priced in the range between Rs. 34,604/- to Rs. 62,339/-.
Samsung’s NC10 is a netbook with a 10.2 inch wide LED display, enhanced capacity battery, Intel’s ATOM N270 Processor, 160 GB hard drive and weighs 1.33 kg*. The sleek and stylish NC10 comes with a 3-in-1 Multi memory slot, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a built in 1.3 mega pixel webcam. Most impressive is the 93% full size keyboard and its standard 5200 mAH high capacity 6 cell Lithium battery, providing up to eight hours of use on a full charge. The NC10 is priced at Rs. 28,477/-.
Samsung Notebooks will be available to consumers through micro retailers as well as large format retail. Said Mr. Yadav, “With the launch of Samsung Notebooks, our focus in the coming year will be to enhance our consumer interface for our IT products.”

Simmtronics First Netbook

Simmtronics which is better known for its inexpensive memory modules, has decided to venture into the netbook segment with the announcement of the company's first netbook, based on Intel's Atom mobile CPU. This netbook will be available in the Indian market this year.
The company plans to start its production at its Roorkee factory as the volume increases. The new compact and lightweight netbook will be similar to other netbooks, as it sports a 10.2-inch screen, comes with Intel Atom processor N270 at 1.6 GHz core speed and 1 GB of RAM.
The company has kept the distribution and marketing plans at a low-profile owing to ongoing economic slowdown and increasing numbers of delayed payments and defaulter cases. At present, the company does not wish to invest in branding and marketing promotions. Nevertheless, whenever the market corrects, it will launch a full-fledged range of netbooks, in partnership with Intel. The company expects to sell 400 units of netbooks by end of December.
At present, the Simmtronics netbook will be available in three colours - red, black and white.
Priced at Rs 21,999 plus taxes and with a back to bench one-year warranty, the netbook will be made available by 15 December this year.

Sony Vaio Z Series

Sony has launched the new VAIO Z series in India.
Weighing in at 1.48 kg, the VAIO Z laptops come in a matte black finish and boasts of a carbon fibre body. The centre of the silver hinge contains a part of the battery and houses the recessed power switch. A seamless sheet of brushed aluminum covers the keyboard panel framing its individual keys.
Available in two new models - VGN-Z13GN/B and VGN-Z12GN/B - the notebooks are priced at Rs 1,24,900 and Rs 99,990 respectively.
Running on Intel Centrino2 Processor Technology, the VGN-13GN/B is equipped with a 4 GB DDR3 SRAM and a 320 GB hard disk drive while the VGN-12GN/B comes with 2 GB DDR3 SRAM and a 250 GB hard disk drive. Both models have Microsoft Windows Vista Business pre-installed and come with G-Sensor Shock Protection technology to counteract sudden movements helping to prevent damage and data loss.
Consisting of two graphics processors - NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS GPU for full graphics acceleration and Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD for mobile situations - the system lets users manually choose either SPEED or STAMINA mode. The setting is changed via a conveniently located switch above the keyboard and does not require rebooting.
VAIO Z is equipped with a biometric fingerprint sensor for speedy logins and TPM (Trusted Platform Module) security chip and proprietary hard disk drive password protection software to help protect data from unauthorized access.
The laptops' displays have a 16:9 aspect ratio at 1600 x 900 pixels, built-in 802.11n wireless LAN capabilities, an optional Blu-ray Disc optical drive, an HDMI port, three USB ports, Memory Stick media/SD card slot and microphone and headphone jack and a PC Card (type-II) slot.
The new VAIO Z series will be available at Sony owned stores, select national retail partners, as well as select Sony authorized dealers across the country.

New Compaq Series

HP has launched a brand new series of trendy Compaq notebooks aimed at those who use laptops mostly for presentations and multimedia entertainment.
The latest Compaq series features a backlit keyboard, finger print reader, HDMI 1.3, an in-built TV tuner card, Blu-ray drive and an infra red remote control.
"This astounding product is a result of HP's extensive research, focusing on user preferences amongst the youth. Keeping in mind the priorities of today's young generation, HP has factored in features like the flush glass finish and the 3D drive guard. A unique blend of looks and durability, the new range is both attractive and sturdy. Now, the generation next can not only enjoy the multimedia experience but flaunt their notebook with oodles of style", said Rajiev Grover, Director - Consumer Products, Personal Systems Group, Hewlett-Packard India.
The new Compaq notebooks are priced in the range of Rs 26,990 to Rs 48,990.
